Project Overview
Urban Switchers is a mobile-first logistics platform designed for last-mile delivery companies that need to manage growing fleets of drivers, track shipments in real time, and optimize delivery routes across urban areas.
The founding team had a clear vision: replace the spreadsheets, phone calls, and manual coordination that were slowing down their operations with a purpose-built digital platform. They needed a solution that could scale from dozens of drivers to hundreds without adding operational overhead.
Nuvy Labs partnered with Urban Switchers from concept through launch, delivering a production-ready MVP in approximately six weeks. Our engagement covered end-to-end product development, from initial UX research and interface design through to backend architecture and app store deployment.
The Challenge
Urban Switchers was operating in a fast-growing on-demand delivery market, but their day-to-day operations relied heavily on manual processes that could not keep up with demand. As their driver network expanded and order volume grew, the cracks in their workflow became impossible to ignore.
- Manual fleet management: Dispatchers coordinated drivers via phone calls and messaging apps, leading to miscommunication, delayed pickups, and wasted time across the team.
- No real-time visibility: Operations managers had no way to see where drivers were at any given moment, making it difficult to respond to delays, reassign jobs, or give customers accurate ETAs.
- Inefficient route planning: Drivers chose their own routes, resulting in longer delivery times, higher fuel costs, and inconsistent service quality across different zones.
- Manual dispatch: Assigning jobs to drivers was a time-consuming process that relied on a dispatcher's knowledge of who was available and nearby, rather than data-driven decision-making.
- No digital proof of delivery: Paper-based delivery confirmations were easy to lose, hard to verify, and created disputes with clients about whether packages were actually delivered.
The team needed a unified platform that could digitize every step of the delivery workflow, from the moment an order is assigned to the moment it is confirmed as delivered.
Our Solution
We designed and built a comprehensive logistics platform with two core interfaces: a driver-facing mobile app and an operations dashboard for dispatchers and managers. The entire system was architected around real-time data flow, ensuring that every action taken in the field is immediately reflected on the admin side.
Driver Mobile App
The cross-platform mobile app gives drivers everything they need to manage their workday. They receive job assignments with push notifications, navigate to pickup and drop-off points with integrated maps, update delivery statuses as they progress, and capture digital proof of delivery with photos and e-signatures. The interface was designed for one-handed use while on the move, with large touch targets and minimal steps to complete each action.
Operations Dashboard
The admin dashboard gives dispatchers and operations managers a live view of the entire fleet. They can see driver locations on a map in real time, assign and reassign deliveries with drag-and-drop simplicity, monitor delivery progress, and pull reports on driver performance and delivery metrics. Automated dispatch logic suggests optimal driver assignments based on proximity and current workload.
Real-Time Infrastructure
We built the backend on a WebSocket-based architecture that streams location updates and status changes in real time. This means dispatchers see driver movements as they happen, not on a refresh cycle. The route optimization engine factors in traffic conditions, delivery windows, and multi-stop sequences to suggest the fastest paths for each driver.
